Where the governments disagree on Zambia

Opinion on Zambia is divided, though not dramatically: ratings run from level 1 to level 2. Eight of the eleven take the stricter view, and the remaining three see no cause for it. A one-level split of this kind usually reflects differing thresholds between governments rather than a dispute about the facts.

These assessments are not equally current. United States' dates from July 2023 — roughly 3.2 years old — so it describes conditions that may have changed several times over since.

The warnings for Zambia are not uniform across the country. Six distinct areas are singled out by at least one government. Among them: Border areas with the Democratic Republic of Congo and Northern borders. At least one government advises against non-essential travel to a specific area while taking a softer line on the country overall.

Your own government's rating is the one your insurer and embassy will act on, so read that source first — the one level of daylight between the strictest and most relaxed assessments here is context, not a substitute for it.

Derived from 11 government assessments for Zambia, most recently reviewed in September 2026.
