Where the governments disagree on Timor-Leste
United Kingdom alone rates Timor-Leste at level 1. Every other government places it higher, all at level 2. Where one government is markedly more relaxed than the rest, the safer planning assumption is the majority view rather than the most reassuring one.
Currency varies between sources. South Korea's is the oldest assessment of Timor-Leste on file, last revised in May 2025, while the rest have been reviewed more recently.
The warnings for Timor-Leste are not uniform across the country. Two distinct areas are singled out by at least one government. The areas named are defined by long district-level lists rather than by single place names — see the individual advisories above for the exact boundaries. At least one government advises against non-essential travel to a specific area while taking a softer line on the country overall.
Your own government's rating is the one your insurer and embassy will act on, so read that source first — the one level of daylight between the strictest and most relaxed assessments here is context, not a substitute for it.
